I have a bumper sticker on my car. It reads GOD, THE ORIGINAL THEY/THEM.

I have the bumper sticker on my kitchen window that says "my goddess gave birth to your god." Since my ancestors were the last pagans to convert to Catholicism I am very aware of how pagan celebrations became Catholic holidays. Gods and goddesses represented certain human traits. Only goddesses can give birth except for Jupiter who birthed Minerva from his head. I plan to see the new Iliad movie so I can bone up on mythology. Fascinating stuff.

To me Jean “God, the original they/them” connotes that there are others? God the Father is Omnipotent. No gender. His (son took a human form), died for our sin, went back up to Heaven to sit at the Right hand of God. Then God the Father sent the Holy Spirit to dwell in each and every one of us forever.

I am not disparaging the LGBGT community. I only remarked respectfully to you when I saw the reference to God. DL 😊

When we recite the Apostles Creed in my Episcopal Church we use "she" for the Holy Spirit so we can be more inclusive. As an academic who used to correct essays, I have a problem using they/them as a singular pronoun. It makes me want to go down some rabbit holes to find out why men are always a mister and women are either miss or misses. It must have to do with property.

I found something! "it has been an example of subtle misogyny for years"

I think we need to invent a new pronoun that does not make English teachers and others cringe. Since Jean studied linguistics I would love to hear her take on this debacle. I think we can agree that humans can be male, female or androgynous.
